Shepherd For a Day
We begin the experience with the sheep. We will learn everything about them by helping Patxi milk some of them manually, then we will let them rest to devote ourselves to the work.
If you want to go deeper, we will make a few curds (the secret of artisanal cheese making) with the freshly produced milk. We will let the curds cool while we go for a walk through the fields of this wonderful natural setting accompanied by “Harri”, Patxi’s Border Collie Sheepdog. You will be amazed at its ability to lead the flock of Latxas sheep from one field to another following the shepherd’s orders. The last stop will be delicious. You will taste those freshly made curds!
If you want to discover the secrets of the traditional remedies, while the sheep rest, you can make your own ointment to take home with you. You will also be able to identify the plants used in the elaboration.
If your interest goes beyond this, we suggest you make your own fresh cheese or get into the natural care area and make some soap with the rest of the whey.
If it happens to be the right season for sheep shearing we propose you have a go at it and help Patxi with this traditional task.
And what better way to finish this day than to savour a tasting of the famous Denomination of Origin Idiazabal cheese.
